The old “Michigan Tent and Awning” facility, located at the junction of Warren Ave and Grand River just west of 4731 Grand River on Detroit’s near west side was a derelict, vacant eyesore covering 5 buildings and roughly 35,000 sqft.

Working with a labor force of primarily returning citizens, the project grew to house two large non-profits, approximately 20 artists and craftsmen and was the first structure in the neighborhood that was entirely covered in street art and murals.

Architectural Salvage Warehouse of Detroit maintained a facility here for a dozen years, training many of the workers we employed, and helping to reuse and recycle many of the materials we removed from the buildings. Eventually outgrowing this space, they moved to a larger facility farther from the city’s center. 

This property was sold to an investor who is continuing to improve the property and the neighborhood, adding restaurants, a coffee and bagel shop and a series of upscale “Quonset Hut” tiny houses called “North Point”, fundamentally transforming the neighborhood.
