787 Windsor was 2.6 acres of land and 50,000sq ft of buildings in varying stages of disrepair.  Entire sections of the facility were open to the elements – it was so bad that one night painters broke in and not only spray painted a beautiful mural on a 20 X 10 section of an interior wall, but they also cleaned up a 20X20 area in front of their work so they could take a picture of it. In effect, people were breaking into the facility and cleaning it!! 

The facility was transformed using labor that came to them from the street, employing workers that were homeless, were coming out of prison, were coming out of drug treatment programs or who were just down on their luck. Volunteers and artists rounded out the workforce.

The security force was made up of kids that had burglarized cars on the night of the project’s first show. They were identified and then instead of being punished, they were hired to protect the facility. 

Three years later, the facility was named “Best Event Venue” by Atlanta’s “Creative Loafing Magazine”.  In a crumbling facility that was originally on a list to be demolished,  AfroPunk, Redbull, P.Diddy, Marvel, Universal Pictures, Miller Brewing and dozens of regional promotions along with numerous non-profits and local community events were successfully hosted.

787 Windsor was sold in 2019 to a t-shirt manufacturer known as “God is Dope”. They are now the area’s largest employer.l
